In part one of our series, we explained how BlueCat’s scalable Adaptive DNS migrations helped transform and improve the productivity, security, and reliability of a wide variety of European companies.

In part two of our series on European Adaptive DNS migrations, we take a look at three different enterprises. Organizations from aerospace to broadcast to education all utilize Adaptive DNS to keep their operations running at their peak.

DNS transformations

Cologne Bonn Airport

Cologne Bonn Airport is one of the largest 24-hour airports in Germany. They handle almost 10 million passengers annually, while also serving as a hub for cargo airlines and even astronaut training. The airport employs 26,000 people, 13,000 of them working on-site.

BEFORE BLUECAT…

Airports are complex environments with many moving parts, and the Cologne Bonn Airport is no exception. A streamlined network architecture is crucial to making sure the planes, people, and cargo get where they need to go.

Cologne Bonn Airport reached a point where they outgrew their previous network platform. This was due to expanded IP-based services, IoT devices like security cameras, multiple DNS zone files hosting numerous zones, and more. A leading DDI vendor didn’t offer the right solution fit, and QIP was simply too expensive.

AFTER BLUECAT…

BlueCat redesigned, streamlined and centralized the airport’s network architecture. A huge data cleanse was conducted prior to the dns migration which allowed the enterprise to start with a clean slate. The new solution eliminated overlapping existing DNS data and automated IP address management, while improving productivity and providing easy access to client names and DHCP addresses. Network administrators can now easily assign access rights based on the network zone and safely delegate tasks – making the entire operation exceptionally efficient.

DNS transformations

Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe University, Education

Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (HS-OWL) is a tech and research-focused educational institution located in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. HS-OWL’s network supports over 10,000 active IP addresses on campus, and serves the needs of about 6,000 students and 600 staff with limited IPv4 address space.

BEFORE BLUECAT…

Initially, HS-OWL used a combination of different open source tools to keep track of their IP addresses and networks. There was zero coordination between their IPAM and existing DNS and DHCP core networks. Also limited scalability put their entire network at risk. Bottom line? They were in need of better network automation, protection, and integration solutions in order to sustain and grow operations.

AFTER BLUECAT…

BlueCat quickly implemented Adaptive DNS, completing the dns migration in just three days. Both DHCP and DNS servers are now handled by BlueCat Address Manager (BAM). The university is enjoying significant savings in administration time and effort, with no downtime.

In fact, HS-OWL is so satisfied with the stability of their network they have become advocates for BlueCat. HS-OWL has begun spreading the gospel to other German universities and are even hosting workshops on how Adaptive DNS can benefit other institutions as well.

ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion, Multimedia and Production

ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion specializes in studio and post-production services, content, and broadcast management. With 430 internal IT staff, ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion relies heavily on effective network management to keep their operation up and running.

BEFORE BLUECAT…

For years, ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion was using a rudimentary IPAM system. The system was out of date, there were no consistency checks, and updates were few and far between. ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion was in serious need of flexible, upgradable and centrally managed IPAM processes.

AFTER BLUECAT…

The implementation connected multiple servers to existing components, all of which are managed with a single GUI. New and future solutions are now easily upgradable so ProSiebenSat.1 is positioned to offer the latest technology in production and broadcast.

Even with years of experience and thousands of trouble-free implementations, we continue to learn from our diverse customer base. As we work to build robust, efficient and secure networks, our clients give us the opportunity to collaborate and innovate, and deliver an unparalleled experience with Adaptive DNS.
