Recapping Info-Tech IGNITE Austin 2026

Info-Tech IGNITE brought CIOs, IT directors, and network leaders to Austin on September 17 and 18, and BlueCat Networks was there for both days, on the show floor and on stage.

Our Field CTO, Paul Gray, took the stage for a session called “The End of Enterprise UI: Lessons from Building an AI-Native Networking Platform.” It was built around five things BlueCat got wrong while building toward agentic AI, and what customers taught us instead.

Machine learning made BlueCat’s predictions and alerts smarter. It didn’t change how anyone actually worked. The screens, the clicks, the workflow, all stayed the same.

The real breakthrough wasn’t reasoning. It was natural language. Customers didn’t light up because a model could analyze their network. They lit up because they could just ask it a question, in plain English, and get an answer.

BlueCat’s MCP Technology

BlueCat also assumed customers wanted a BlueCat AI assistant. They didn’t. They already had an assistant they liked (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, whatever their organization had standardized on), and what they wanted was for that assistant to understand BlueCat’s product, not compete with it.

That preference has an architecture behind it now: the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP decouples the interface from the application, so customers keep choosing their own agent and vendors provide the knowledge underneath it.

Which leads to the closing point: the UI is no longer the product. Trusted data, context, and institutional knowledge are becoming the thing enterprise software actually has to deliver. Paul closed with three predictions: every enterprise application will eventually expose MCP, the way every application eventually exposed a REST API; most employees will spend their workday inside their assistant of choice rather than inside vendor software directly; and the vendors that come out ahead won’t be the ones with the smartest chatbot, they’ll be the ones with the most trustworthy knowledge.
