We are Launching a New Versioning Scheme

We are announcing that we are switching to a different versioning scheme along with quarterly releases. Moving to this new scheme displays our commitment to stability and predictability. We will now have fewer releases in a year and will be releasing new capabilities at the end of each quarter in March, June, September and December.

Introducing Major, Minor and Patch Releases

Beginning with version 6.6.0, version numbers adhere to the semantic versioning scheme. Semantic versioning has been widely adopted by software development projects and is easy to understand. It uses a sequence of three digits.

Format: [major].[minor].patch

Major releases increment the first digit, minor releases increment the second digit, and patch releases the 3rd.

[major]: A major change such as a different code base with a new user interface. For example, Indeni 6.x has a completely different architecture and user interface. Such a change constitutes a “major” change.

[minor]: minor releases are quarterly releases with new capabilities. The quarterly release will first ship with patch=0. For example, 6.6.0 is the first release with no patches. We will be releasing 6.6.0 at the end of June 2019. You should expect Indeni to release 6.7.0 in September 2019.

patch: bug fixes. Indeni will ship bug fix releases only as needed. Historically, we have shipped several patch releases within each quarter.

Benefits of the new versioning scheme & quarterly releases

  • Versioning helps you understand what type of changes have taken place in the release.
  • You can keep track of every transition in the software development phase and plan your upgrades accordingly.
  • A quarterly release means that you can plan your upgrades in advance and in a predictable manner.
