BlueCat announced that its Cloud Discovery & Visibility offering now supports Microsoft Azure in addition to Amazon Web Services, helping network teams maintain a single source of truth for IP address and DNS record consumption across public clouds and data centers. The article explains the real-world problem of independent cloud and development teams allocating network resources without synchronized visibility, which leads to data conflicts, outages, security, and compliance incidents, and how BlueCat’s solution automates discovery and inventory to reduce those risks. Key outcomes include improved end-to-end visibility, timely IP and DNS reconciliation, accelerated application delivery, and Azure-specific features such as simplified credentials, automatic overlapping VNET detection with dynamic partitioning in BlueCat Integrity, and dynamic detection of Azure load-balancer changes.

What problem does BlueCat Cloud Discovery & Visibility solve for network teams managing multi-cloud and data center resources?

BlueCat Cloud Discovery & Visibility addresses the lack of synchronized visibility that occurs when cloud and development teams independently allocate network resources. Without a federated source of truth, organizations face data conflicts, outages, and security and compliance incidents. By automatically discovering and inventorying resources in AWS and Azure from BlueCat’s network management platform, the offering enables timely IP address and DNS record reconciliation, reduces data conflicts and costly outages, and supports automation needed for digital transformation.

What Azure-specific capabilities were added in this BlueCat release and how do they help operations?

The Azure-specific capabilities include simplified credentials for Azure which enhance authentication for administrators, making it quicker to run discovery, identify available users, and track resource groups. The release also provides automatic detection of overlapping VNET address space and dynamically partitions that address space within BlueCat Integrity to prevent address conflicts. Additionally, the visibility function now dynamically detects addition or removal of Azure load balancers and load balancer instance pools, improving real-time awareness of infrastructure changes and reducing the risk of misconfigured or undocumented network elements.

How does supporting Azure (and AWS) with Cloud Discovery & Visibility impact application delivery and compliance?

By extending automated discovery and inventory to Azure in addition to AWS, BlueCat gives network teams end-to-end visibility across environments, which accelerates application delivery by enabling faster reconciliation of IP addresses and DNS records. This reduced reconciliation time helps eliminate data conflicts that can delay deployments. Improved visibility and automated tracking of resources also support compliance and resilience requirements by making it easier to detect changes, enforce consistent addressing practices, and prevent outages or security incidents tied to undocumented network resources.

BlueCat Enhances Cloud Discovery & Visibility Capabilities for Network Teams Managing Resources Across Public Clouds, Data Centers

BlueCat’s Cloud Discovery & Visibility offering now supports Microsoft Azure, giving network teams a single source of truth over more of their organizations’ IP address and DNS record consumption.

TORONTOAugust 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — BlueCat, the Adaptive DNS Company™, is making it easier for network teams to meet visibility, compliance, and resilience requirements as cloud adoption accelerates. Following the unveiling of BlueCat Cloud Discovery & Visibility for Amazon Web Services (AWS) earlier this year, the company today announces that the application now extends to Microsoft Azure (Azure). An extension to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is also on the horizon.

Maintaining real-time visibility over resource consumption across environments is a significant challenge for network teams. As cloud and development teams independently allocate network resources for projects, the lack of synchronized visibility causes data conflicts, outages, security and compliance incidents.

“In order to drive automation necessary for digital transformation, it is critical that networking teams have access to a federated source of truth for the utilization of networks and IP addresses everywhere that compute is deployed,” says BlueCat Chief Strategy Officer, Andrew Wertkin, about the significance of this release.

BlueCat Cloud Discovery & Visibility enables network teams to automatically discover and inventory resources in AWS and Azure from its network management platform. This improves end-to-end visibility across environments, enables timely IP addresses and DNS record reconciliation, accelerates application delivery, and reduces data conflicts and costly outages.

The release features Azure-specific capabilities, including:

  • Simplified credentials for Azure: enhanced authentication for administrators to more quickly run discovery, identify available users, and track resource groups in Azure.
  • Automatic detection of overlapping VNET address space: discovery process for Azure now automatically detects overlapping VNET address space, and dynamically partitions the address space in BlueCat Integrity.
  • Dynamic detection of Azure load-balancer changes: visibility function for Azure now detects the addition or removal of Azure load balancers and load balancer instance pools.
