BlueCat Introduces Network Visualization for Network Insight at Scale
TORONTO, CANADA – October 28, 2015 – BlueCat, a leading provider of DNS, DHCP and IP address management solutions (DDI), today introduced Network Visualization, a new capability giving enterprises unprecedented insight into their global networks.
BlueCat introduced Network Visualization in its 8.0 DDI release to give enterprises visual, data-driven insight into global network health using DNS, DHCP and IP address information. The capability includes templates — DHCP Heat Map, IP Allocation Overlay and DNS Deployment Role Overlay — that reveal DHCP lease patterns, IP block utilization and DNS configuration associations to help detect anomalies and configuration issues. By surfacing over- or under-utilized networks and unusual lease activity, Network Visualization enables IT teams to proactively adjust infrastructure, reduce risk of unplanned outages and better meet business SLAs.
What types of visual templates does BlueCat's Network Visualization provide and what insights do they deliver?
Network Visualization includes three templates: the DHCP Heat Map, IP Allocation Overlay and DNS Deployment Role Overlay. The DHCP Heat Map visually represents distribution of DHCP leases and device types on a daily basis and supports historical calendar views over multiple years to reveal lease patterns. The IP Allocation Overlay uses a tree map to show global IP allocation, block size, percentage allocation and number of addresses used so customers can spot over- or under-utilized networks. The DNS Deployment Role Overlay also uses a tree map to map configuration, blocks and networks to DNS deployment roles, highlighting differences in parameters across roles for further analysis.
How does Network Visualization help enterprises prevent network outages and meet SLAs?
By leveraging complete DNS, DHCP and IP address data, Network Visualization enables rapid detection of anomalies such as unusually high or low IP address allocation and atypical DHCP lease activity. These visualizations make it straightforward to identify potential configuration problems or resource shortages before they escalate into outages. With clear, global views of allocation and configuration, IT teams can quickly adjust network allocations and settings to ensure resource availability and uphold service-level agreements.
Which BlueCat products include Network Visualization and in which release is it available?
Network Visualization is available as part of BlueCat’s 8.0 release and is included in BlueCat Address Manager and BlueCat DNS/DHCP Server. The feature is integrated into the DDI solution platform to leverage the full set of DNS, DHCP and IP address management data already maintained by those products, providing unified, visual insights across an enterprise’s global network.
TORONTO, CANADA – October 28, 2015 – BlueCat, a leading provider of DNS, DHCP and IP address management solutions (DDI), today introduced Network Visualization, a new capability giving enterprises unprecedented insight into their global networks. Network Visualization is available as part of BlueCat’s latest release of its DDI solution platform.
Leveraging a complete set of DNS, DHCP and IP address data, Network Visualization allows enterprises to instantly detect anomalies in the network, such as unusually high or low IP address allocation for key networks, view patterns in DHCP lease activity, and quickly identify potential network configuration issues. Customers can rapidly adjust the network to avoid the risk of unplanned network outages, ensure network resource availability and meet the SLAs of their business.
Network Visualization templates available today include:
- DHCP Heat Map The DHCP Heat Map provides a visual representation of the distribution of DHCP leases and device types on a daily basis. In addition, historical distribution of DHCP leases can be viewed over multiple years, in a calendar view.
- IP Allocation Overlay The IP Allocation Overlay uses a tree map to display the global network with IP address allocation information overlaid, enabling customers to identify which blocks or networks are being over- or under-utilized . Information such as the size of the network or block, the percentage of IP address allocation and number of IP addresses used in a particular block or network is clearly presented for further analysis and investigation.
- DNS Deployment Role Overlay The DNS Deployment Role Overlay uses a tree map to display network structure by configuration, blocks and networks. Identify which blocks or networks are associated with which DNS deployment roles and the variations between parameters within DNS deployment roles that are assigned in relation to other blocks and networks.
“In order for IT organizations to respond to the needs of their business, they need to have both a complete set of data as well as the ability to view it in a meaningful way,” Christina Perdikoulias, Vice President, Product Management, BlueCat. “Network Visualization gives our customers unique insights through visualizations versus canned or ad hoc reports. This provides a truly global and dynamic view of the network enabling them to address potential issues before they happen.”
Network Visualization is now available as part of the 8.0 release of BlueCat Address Manager and BlueCat DNS/DHCP Server.
