Snapshots from Cisco Barcelona 2020
BlueCat attended Cisco Live EMEA in Barcelona for the third consecutive year, engaging network engineers and IT leaders about networking, security, and integrations with Cisco technologies. Product Management Directors presented BlueCat’s integration with Cisco Umbrella, highlighting security use cases such as faster threat detection via endpoint visibility, controlling internal network traffic, deploying granular DNS security policies, and optimizing SD-WAN. The team also discussed Cisco DNA Center and broader IT trends, noting customer demand for partner solutions to support rapid digital transformation and operational change.
What key security use cases did BlueCat present with its Cisco Umbrella integration at Cisco Live EMEA?
At Cisco Live EMEA, BlueCat highlighted several major security use cases for its integration with Cisco Umbrella: faster threat detection enabled by improved endpoint visibility, the ability to control internal network traffic, deployment of granular DNS security policies, and optimization of SD-WAN deployments. These use cases emphasize how the integration enhances visibility and control for security teams, supports policy-driven DNS security at scale, and improves network performance and security posture for SD-WAN environments. Presenters framed these capabilities as directly addressing operational security needs faced by enterprise networks.
How did BlueCat engage with attendees beyond presentations during the event?
Beyond stage presentations, BlueCat engaged attendees through conversations across the event floor and media participation. Brian Shorland joined Cisco Technical Solutions Architect Chris Riviere to record an episode of Cisco Champion Radio, diving into technical topics like north-south and east-west traffic and the depth of visibility and control provided by the BlueCat–Cisco Umbrella integration. The team also held numerous discussions with both existing customers and new contacts about digital transformation journeys, Cisco DNA Center interest, and how BlueCat can support customer needs alongside Cisco technologies.
What broader IT trends and customer needs did BlueCat observe at Cisco Live EMEA?
BlueCat observed a continued rapid pace of change in IT, with pressure felt across businesses and individuals to adapt quickly. Attendees showed strong interest in Cisco DNA Center and SD-WAN/intent-based networking, indicating that forward-thinking IT teams are prioritizing these technologies. Customers are looking to Cisco and partners like BlueCat for solutions to meet accelerating demands, seeking integrations and capabilities that provide visibility, control, and policy-driven security to support digital transformation initiatives.
Even though Cisco Barcelona was just a week ago, can we say we already miss it?
For the third year in a row, BlueCat made a splash at Cisco Live EMEA, the insight-packed, week-long “Burning Man festival for nerds”. As usual, it was a thrilling experience for us to connect with everyone from network engineers to IT leaders. We talked about networking, security, and everything in between.

Our Product Management Directors, Rohan Ramesh and Brian Shorland, each took to the stage under the Cisco Umbrella pavilion to walk attendees through our latest with Cisco integration. They talked about the value of BlueCat and Cisco Umbrella’s partnership and the major security use cases:
- Faster threat detection with endpoint visibility
- Control internal network traffic
- Deploy granular DNS security policies
- Optimize SD-WAN deployments

The fun continued for Brian, who joined Chris Riviere, Cisco Technical Solutions Architect, to record an episode of Cisco Champion Radio. Together, they discussed the depth of visibility and control our integration provides security teams. Digging into highly technical questions, Brian got nerdy with the hosts about north-south and east-west traffic.

Cisco Umbrella wasn’t the only thing on our minds. Many attendees wanted to talk about Cisco DNA Center, one of our other Cisco integrations. Its popularity is a good indicator that forward-thinking IT teams are looking to SD-WAN and intent-based networking.
Another unsurprising trend we picked up at Cisco Live was the continued rapid pace of change in IT. This pressure is felt across every business and person. Cisco customers are looking to Cisco and partners, like BlueCat, to help them meet these demands.

Although the week went by quickly, we enjoyed the conversations we had with old customers and new friends about their digital transformation journeys.
Suffice it to say, we enjoyed our time in Spain… so let the countdown to Cisco Live Amsterdam begin!
